Repertoire

In 2015, Sounds of Angkor recorded Chen Sopheak to publish a CD that never saw the light of day. Here we offer you the best of the Khmer harp repertoire hoping it will inspire your learning.

Chen Sopheak plays different styles of Khmer music: court entertainment music (mahori), dance music that echoes gestures depicted on the ancient temples (roam kbach), wedding music (phleng kar), and some contemporary songs.

The style of Chen Sopheak is tricky. The melodies are enriched by formulas and ornaments that the harp allows. The style developed for centuries by traditional musicians on xylophones roneat is underlying. Chen Sopheak opens here a new way for all the Khmer harpists. Thanks to him.
